115: On Hiatus

Thu Jun 23, 2011, 6:08 PM
Having no luck coming up with the money to fix the camera. Paid gigs keep falling through. Talked to an old friend about going to work for him. So looks like I will be doing a (gasp!) real job instead. Not sure when I'll be back. Seems like $415 shouldn't be that hard to come up with but apparently it is.

My world is wonderful and frightening. Always something weird a-happening. You can't even imagine...

This is why I always roll with a back-up camera (or two or three). My girlfriend shoots with only her one 5D Mk II, and it's her primary source of income. I tell her constantly to buy a second body, because WHEN that bad boy goes down, it's going to be hard to come up with $3k to replace it when she has no other means of income. (And I'll be damned if I'm going to let her use my gear for a month while she earns enough to replace it).

Well, it sucks, but look at it this way, there are millions of people that are less fortunate then you are. Sometimes you just gotta count your blessings and accept what you do have. Nothing wrong with having a real job, especially temporarily to get back on your feet with the camera. I have a real job and can't even afford them damn things lol

Sadly I made the choice to do one or the other. Photography hasn't really worked out so I think I just want to move on to something else.

Apparently photography's your passion though :) And it's a real job, pushing advertisements or getting more contracts and such, to make money, is part of the job, it's the "icky" part of the fun job, but it's gotta be done.

Just gotta figure how to make more money so you can afford mistakes like this too. That's what all businesses do (the ones that can and are smart enough to know that mistakes exist lol). It's the way of normal life as well, you never know what you're gonna run into so some people save money for emergency uses. I can't afford that, but I do have credit, should the need arises, such as when my computer died a couple years back (got that lone paid off thankfully).
